The Government approves a decree to regularise undocumented migrants
On Tuesday 27 January, the Spanish Government approved a royal decree opening an extraordinary regularisation process for migrants in an irregular administrative situation who already live in the country.
The measure will allow those who can prove that they were in Spain before 31 December 2025 and can demonstrate at least five months of continuous residence to apply for residence and work permits.
Applications may be submitted from April until 30 June 2026, and from the moment the application is accepted, individuals will be able to work legally while the permit is being processed.
Documents such as registration certificates, receipts, rental contracts, medical appointments or other proof of presence in Spain may be provided to prove residence.
The decree will be published in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
